Troubleshooting for MAC Users

First: We need to see trace routes. ****Mac OS X Environment****

  1. Double-click the Hard Drive icon > Applications Folder > Utilities folder > Network Utility program.
  2. Select the Traceroute tab and enter www.vitalstream.com
  3. Click on trace. Copy and paste the results in the body of an email to robin@vastucreations.com and brianw@siteknowledge.com

Second: We need to get your available bandwidth. Go to http://speakeasy.net/speedtest. Test Seattle, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and Atlanta and report the download speeds in the same email.

Third: How much available memory does your machine have? There is a minimum required amount which may mean you will need to add memory.

To find out open "System Preferences". Go to "Applications" and a new window opens. Select "Macintosh HD". Now select "System" and at the bottom of this window, in the gray border, it will say how much memory is available.

Troubleshooting PC Users

First: We need to see trace routes to determine if this is a problem within our network or peer networks. This will show us how the traffic is routed from you to us.

  1. Do this from your command prompt (click your "start" button - then click "run" in the lower right column). A window will open.
  2. Type in "cmd". Click "OK". Another window will open that will bring you to the command prompt.
  3. Once there, type in "tracert vitalstream.com". Hit the "Enter" key.
  4. When this finishes, click on the icon in the upper left corner of that window. Go to "edit" and click on "select all".
  5. Go back to the icon and click on it again - go to edit again and select "copy".

Please compose an email to robin@vastucreations.com and brianw@siteknowledge.com and in the body hit "Ctrl + V" to paste the copy there. In the subject-heading write: Vastu Creations Troubleshooting Info - Your Name
